What's On Your Business Relocation Check List?

from:

No matter if your business is large or small the task of business relocation presents its fair share of challenges. It doesn't matter if the business is just responding to a natural need for better facilities or it is forced to relocate for other reasons; the task is nearly identical. A move involves so many moving parts that can quickly become confusing and hard to keep in order without plans and guidelines. A business relocation check list is one way to tackle this problem. There are two questions that may arise. One, what is a business relocation check list and, two, what sort of information is typically found on that list.

So, what is a business relocation check list? Simply stated, they are an organizational tool that is used by businesses to keep track of all of the relevant details of a relocation program and make sure that each point is accounted for so business relocation can go smoothly. The business relocation check list may be compiled while a business is preparing to search for a new location. Just as with relocation studies and reports, checklists can be used at this time to keep all of the facts straight and allow for comparison of the pros and cons of a new location. The other use of a business relocation check list has more to do with the actual moving process. They outline all the tasks that will be required to transfer the business from place to place successfully while minimizing loss of business continuity. Why types of things are included on each of these lists?

The answer to the second question will be two-fold since there are two types under consideration. The first type of business relocation check list, as stated above, has to with finding that new location. Therefore, the points that occupy that list will deal with practical matters like the physical address and the surround neighborhood. Some of these types of check lists are often incorporated into the business relocation studies that are conducted by both individual businesses and professional business relocation agencies. What are some these practical matters? They might include size of premise, utilities service quality, availability of parking, outer appearance, as well as accessibility of location. These factors will be used in weighing the current business premises with possible relocation sites. Naturally, there are other considerations that may be included, but this depends on the particular situation.

The second type of business relocation check list will include all of those tasks that need to be accomplished while the move is in progress. This may include contacting and confirming moving dates with new landlords if renting, making sure that all utility accounts and phone accounts are transferred from old address to new, coordinating the moving schedules with employees and moving companies responsible for transporting office materials, as well as records. There are plenty of other considerations that may be applied to make the business relocation check list more comprehensive or fit whatever needs may be relevant.
