Leaving the Big Apple? New York Moving Companies

from:

Getting relocated? Planning on moving to start a new life? Leaving the Big Apple for greener pastures? Or are you moving from one borough to another? Then you will need to find New York moving companies who can do the move for you.

It really shouldn't be too difficult to find New York moving companies either on line or in your local phone directory. Since moving is a very competitive business, one of the things you can do when searching for New York moving companies is compare rates. This will often give you an idea of what you may expect to spend for your move. However, having said that, rates should not be the only things you compare for New York moving companies.

You will want to know if they are members of the Chamber of Commerce and/or the Better Business Bureau and you will want to know if any of the New York moving companies you are considering have been sued. And above all else, you want to know which New York moving companies are licensed, have good reputations and provide a quality service to their customers.

Okay this might take some time to accomplish, as there are actually more than 50 pages of New York moving companies to choose from. So, how do you narrow down your choices? Besides the above suggestions, you can also talk to your friends and family who have moved in the past or who are about to move. They'll be able to give you references one way or the other based on their experiences with New York moving companies.

If you still have questions about who to chose, then start making a list of some of the ones you have contacted about your move – say you try 6 movers – then track down their prices and find out what their reputation is for reliability. Maybe you can decide based on whether or not you get a quote over the phone, or if someone comes to survey your house and give you a quote. Frankly, it makes more sense to have someone come and "see" what you have to move rather than guess over the phone. Guessing can often mean you've missed some large items that will cost you extra. So phone quotes aren't the most reliable.
Bottom line? If you are going to be hiring local movers, call the State Department of Transportation (DOT) and verify the company has a New York license. Unfortunately there are companies who aren't licensed and have advertised false addresses. You better believe any complaints would be hard to resolve if this were the case with your mover.
